The “Medical Acupuncture Journal” has dedicated a whole issue to the use of acupuncture by the US military. Editor-in-Chief of the journal, Richard Niemtzow, explains: “The use of acupuncture for helping wounded warriors suffering from pain, post-traumatic stress disorder, and mild traumatic brain injury is growing rapidly”.

Gastro-oesophageal Reflux Disease
A 2006 article in the journal Gastroenterology mentioned researchers from Duke University, USA concluding that acupuncture may be effective in gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD) because it stimulates the filling and emptying of the stomach and colon which is often impaired in GORD. Acupuncture can also inhibit stomach acid secretion, which would also be beneficial to these patients.
